Municipality of Kumanovo and the National Democratic Institute signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Tuesday for the implementation of the project “Strengthening Municipal Resilience to Corruption,” funded and supported by the Swiss Confederation and the Kingdom of Sweden.

The memorandum was signed by Maksim Dimitrievski and Robert Scott Heazlett.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Municipality Secretary Emilija Slaridis Janevska and project team leader David Sip.

The cooperation is part of the “Communities with Integrity” project, on which both sides have already been working. The new memorandum is expected to intensify activities aimed at preventing corruption and improving transparency in local government.

The project aims to help municipalities, ministries, and central government institutions more effectively identify corruption risks, while also strengthening the capacities of civil society organizations to monitor decision-making processes and the delivery of public services.

As part of the cooperation, technical assistance is planned for the development of internal anti-corruption mechanisms and procedures, training for public officials on reporting corrupt practices, support for greater transparency through the publication of public data, and digitalization of services to improve efficiency and reduce corruption risks.
