Actor, writer, musician, and one of North Macedonia’s most recognizable artists, Igor Džambazov, has been named this year’s recipient of the prestigious “Vasil Iljoski” Award for outstanding contribution to theatre, presented annually by the “Days of Comedy” International Theatre Festival in Kumanovo.
The decision was made by the festival organizers and the Festival Council of the 2026 “Days of Comedy” International Theatre Festival, who stated that the award recognizes Džambazov’s exceptional acting talent, distinctive sense of humor, and decades-long contribution to theatre and the arts.
“His exceptional acting talent, unique sense of humor, and decades-long contribution to theatre and the cultural arts have left an indelible mark on audiences and rightfully place him among the greatest names in Macedonian comedy,” the organizers said.
The award ceremony will take place during the festival’s opening night on September 23, 2026, in the main hall of the Trajko Prokopiev Cultural Center in Kumanovo.
The “Vasil Iljoski” Award is the highest recognition presented by the “Days of Comedy” Festival, organized by the National Institution Trajko Prokopiev Cultural Center – Kumanovo.
The award is named after the prominent Macedonian playwright Vasil Iljoski, one of the founders of modern Macedonian drama, and is presented to distinguished theatre artists for their lasting contribution to the development of theatre, with a special emphasis on comedy.
Last year, the “Vasil Iljoski” Award was presented to actress Vesna Petruševska.
