The Prevention Unit of the Kumanovo Police Department carried out a preventive campaign at several locations across the city aimed at increasing the safety of road users during the summer travel period.
As part of the campaign, citizens were given leaflets containing advice for safe travel, with particular emphasis on preparing vehicles before longer journeys and responsible behavior in traffic.
The Kumanovo Police Department reminds drivers that before setting off, they should check their tires, including air pressure and tread depth, as well as the overall condition of the vehicle. Checking the engine oil, battery, antifreeze, brakes and exhaust system is also recommended.
Special attention should be paid to the air-conditioning system and air filter, as high temperatures and heat inside the vehicle can make the journey more difficult and affect the driver’s concentration.
The advice also includes checking the windshield wipers and the level of fluid in the reservoir, as well as ensuring that all lights, exterior lights and turn signals are functioning properly. For families traveling with children, it is important that child seats are properly installed and that seat belts are functional and used correctly.
Citizens are advised to keep a first-aid kit and an emergency kit in the vehicle, as well as enough fuel in the tank.
The driver’s behavior is also particularly important during journeys. Drivers are urged to remain focused on the road and not use their phones while driving. For longer journeys, traveling in the early morning hours, while rested and well-slept, is recommended.
“The preventive activities are intended to remind citizens that safe travel begins even before the vehicle is started, with a timely check of its condition and responsible behavior on the roads,” said Lile Mladenovska, head of the Prevention Unit at the Kumanovo Police Department.
